Wii Shuts Off By Itself

I was at a friends house, and while we were bowling, his Wii console shut itself off. He said it does that all the time and you just have to wait a while and we would be able to use it again. After further investigation, it appeared to be overheating. Wii consoles can get very hot and they must have proper ventilation. They will shut off automatically if they get too hot. If this happens to you…

  • Make sure there is nothing blocking the vents around the Wii.
  • Get some canned air and clean out all the vents if dust is blocking the vents.
  • Stand the unit up on its side to allow air to pass around a larger area of the unit.
  • Ensure no other items that emit heat are around the Wii.

Wii: Save Mii to Remote

Did you know that you can save a Mii character to your Wii Remote controller? I didn’t. You can do this and then take your Wiimote to another person’s Wii and use your Mii character there.

1. From the Main Menu, select the Mii Channel.

2. Select Start.

3. Select the icon that looks like a Wii Remote controller on the right of the screen. This is the Transfer Mii option.

4. Select which Wii Remote you would like to use.

5. If the Wii Remote hasn’t had data saved to it, it will prompt you to format it. Select Yes.

6. You will have a message that tells you how to grab a Mii and add it to the Wii Remote. Select OK.

7. Grab the Mii character you wish to save to the Wii Remote by pointing it at the one you want and pressing and holding A and B at the same time.

8. Drag the Mii character to an open slot at the top of the screen. You can save up to 10.

9. Select Save & quit when you are done.

Now when you play on another Wii console, you can sync your controller to their Wii, then access this same screen and drag and drop the Mii character from your Wii Remote and place it in that consoles Mii Channel.

We were playing Cranium Kabookii on the Wii this past weekend, and we had a problem with a part of the game where you have to shake the controller and spray paint. The can in the game just wouldn’t spray. So we were perplexed each time we tried.

It turned out that the sensitivity on our Nintendo Wii needed to be increased. This fixed the issue.

1. Select the Wii icon on the bottom left of the Main Menu.

2. Select Wii Settings.

3. Flip to page 2 of the Wii Settings.

4. Select Sensor Bar.

5. Select Sensitivity.

When I bought a second controller (wii-mote) for my Wii, I couldn’t figure out how to add it so that my Wii would pick it up. The instructions included with the controller and the console were useless. I figured it out though…

2. Open the battery compartment on the second controller.

3. Press the Sync button on the Wii inside the door.

4. Press the Sync button on the controller inside the battery compartment.

Eventually, the 2 devices should find each other. If you’re visiting a friends house, you can perform a one time sync of your controller to your friends Wii.

2. Run the software. There are quite a bit of advertisements, but just ignore those. Click Convert then Select File. Pick the file you wish to convert and then click Next.
