I had an MPG video that I made with my camera. I wanted to play it on my iPod Touch. So I imported it into iTunes, converted it, then tried to sync it. The video made it over to my iPod Touch, but it’s not there. It has somehow disappeared and I cannot play it on the device.
Apparently if certain fields are not filled in in the video Info screen, the video will not appear on the iPod Touch or iPhone 3G. If you have this problem, try the following:
1. In iTunes, right-click/Ctrl-click the Video and select Get Info.
2. Click the Video tab.
3. Fill in every field on that screen with at least some information. Don’t leave anything blank.
4. Resync your video file and then try to view the video on the device.

I had a problem where my iPhone 3G wasn’t notifying me when new email arrived with a sound notification. I made sure the volume on the unit was up and that the Ring/Silent switch on the left side of the unit was set to Ring, but it still didn’t work. I also checked under Settings > Sounds to make sure New Mail was set to On.
This looks like it’s a common issue, and the thing that fixes it most times is performing a hard reset on the iPhone 3G. This worked for me, hope it works for you.

2. Tap the Add to Home Screen.
3. Edit the name of the clip.
4. Tap Add.
If you grow tired of the Web Clip, there is a way to delete it as well.

I experienced a strange problem with my iPhone this week where it refused to vibrate. I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I went under Settings > Sound and made sure Vibrate was set to On, but it still wouldn’t vibrate.
Luckily I came across this post. It actually suggests whacking the iPhone on the back. Apparently the spinny thing inside that makes it vibrate gets stuck from time to time. Mine started working when I made it start to vibrate by calling my own phone while tapping it gently at the same time.

iPhone 3G owners may wonder how to know exactly when the device is fully charged. The icon in the upper-right corner of the screen will show a lightning bolt for what seems like an eternity. When the iPhone is completely charged, this icon will change to a plug.

The iPhone’s auto correct feature comes in handy when typing certain words that contain apostrophes. When you need an apostrophe, instead of using the additional keyboard, you can type the final letter of the word an additional time and it will trigger the auto-correct feature to add an apostrophe where needed.
- Typing welll will correct to we’ll.
- Typing weree will correct to we’re.
There are some words that work slightly differently. For example, typing itsa will auto-correct to it’s.

Did you know that you can set how many seconds the iPhone 3G will ring before it goes to voice mail? Sure you could call customer service and have them do it for you. If you are the techie type though, you will want to do it yourself with these steps:
1. Call this number: *#61#
2. Write down the voice mail access number that appears on the line that says Forwards to.
3. Now call: *61*+1[vm access number]*11*n#
Replace [vm access number] with your voice mail access number
Replace n with the number of seconds that should elapse before the call is sent to voice mail.
To type a plus sign, hold down 0 for two seconds.
When complete, you should see the following on your iPhone:
Setting Activation Succeeded
Voice Call Forwarding
When Unanswered
You are now set and the iPhone 3G should ring only for the amount of time you specified now before jumping over the voice mail.

So you’re typing away on your iPhone, and let’s say you want to type a letter with an accent on it. For example, an é instead of e, or ň instead of an n.
To get to these characters, hold down the letter such as E, Y, U, I, O, A, S, L, Z, C, or N on the keyboard. You will be give a bunch of other options for the letters.

If you own an iPhone 3G, you just have to own a case. You plunked down a lot of money on the thing, so you need to protect it. The iPhone 3G is fragile and scratches easily. So which case should you buy? I am crazy about the DLO HybridShell. Why this case? Only one reason. The silicone gripping back.
If you are familiar with having devices that are at times tethered to a wire, I’m sure you are also familiar with accidentally hitting the wire and causing the device to slide off a surface and fall to the ground. This case will grip almost any surface and prevent such an event.
The DLO HybridShell will not only physically protect your device from scratches or a fall, but it will prevent a fall as well. It’s available for any iPhone and almost any iPod also.
I am not getting paid anything for this post.

There are some people that have been getting impatient when updating their iPhone to the version 2.0 software. They see a screen that says Restoring iPhone Software, but it stays there for hours and seems stalled or frozen. So what do you do?
Let your iPhone sit! I don’t care if it’s been 5 hours. Leave it alone and do not unplug it. Leave it updating all night if you have to. The update can take 30 minutes to about 6 hours. If it’s taking longer, leave it anyway and see if it finishes.
If you’ve waited overnight and your iPhone screen has still not changed, then it’s probably time to say you have an iBrick. You will need to have it repaired by Apple at that point.
