Disable the annoying “You’ve opened a new tab” screen from appearing in Internet Explorer 7.

1. Click Start, type REGEDIT and press ENTER

2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then Software
then Microsoft
then Internet Explorer
then TabbedBrowsing

3. Right-click on TabbedBrowsing and select New–>DWORD Value and name it ShowTabsWelcome

4. Double-click ShowTabsWelcome, and set its value data to 0

5. Restart Windows.

You click on the Read Mail button in IE7 and nothing happens.

Windows XP

1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.

2. Click Programs tab and select your mail client from the drop-down list. Click OK and close the dialog.


Windows Vista

1. Click Start, select Default Programs

2. Click Set your default programs

3. Select the mail client you wish to use and then click Set this program as default. Click OK

Now the Read Mail button should bring up your default mail application when you click on it in IE7.

IE7 installation freezes at a certain point and never finishes.

This is usually caused by the updates that are being installed while IE7 is being installed.

To fix this problem:

1. Go through the installation wizard normally until you get to the Get the latest updates part of the installer.

2. Clear the check to Install the latest updates for Internet Explorer and the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (recommended) check box, and then click Next.

The installation should then proceed normally.

Create shortcuts to clear your Internet Explorer (IE7) Browsing History Tracks.

You can use the following RUNDLL32 commands to clear your tracks in IE7. You can also make shortcuts for each of these functions.

Delete Temporary Internet Files:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 8

Delete Cookies:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2

Delete History:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 1

Delete Form Data:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 16

Delete Passwords:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 32

Delete All:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 255

Delete All + files and settings stored by Add-ons:
RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 4351

IE7 includes a feature that turns the address bar green when a secure site presents an Extended Validation Certificate.

1. Ensure that you either have the Phishing Filter set to Automatic mode or Tools–>Internet Options–> Advanced–>Security–>Check for Server Certificate revocation checked.

2. If that doesn’t work, install the Windows Root Certificate Update and restart.

Enable Classic Menus such as File, Edit, View, etc. in Internet Explorer 7 (IE7).

1. Open Internet Explorer 7.

2. click Tools and select Menu Bar.

You cannot start Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) because it flashes the screen when you try and then disappears. This usually happens after installation.

1. Click START–>RUN and type cmd

2. At the prompt, type cd and press ENTER

3. Type cd Program Files and press ENTER

4. Type cd Internet Explorer and press ENTER

5. Type regsvr32 IEPROXY.DLL

6. You should get a confirmation that the IEPROXY.DLL has been registered. You can then close all windows and try Internet Explorer again.

If these steps don’t solve the problem, try these steps.

Speed up Internet Explorer with this registry hack. It will increase the maximum connections per server.

1. Click START–>RUN and type REGEDIT. Click OK.

2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then SOFTWARE
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Internet Settings

Double click on the value MaxConnectionsPerServer and change it to a value of 10
Do the same thing for the value MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server. Give it a value of 10 as well.

Internet Explorer will now be faster because it can have up to 16 open connections per server.

Internet Explorer 7 crashes whenever you start it up. The screen might flash briefly and then disappear or crash with an error message.

This problem is usually caused by a plugin that is not compatible with Internet Explorer 7.

Try starting Internet Explorer after clearing the plug-ins

Control Panel–>Internet Options–>Programs–>Manage Add-Ons

Set the Add-ons here to DISABLED.

You can also try launching Internet Explorer with Add-Ons disabled.

While adding a Favorite to Internet Explorer 7, it freezes or locks up and will not respond.

The likely cause of this is that a favorite has been added that has more than 221 characters. Since you cannot access the Favorites once a favorite with more than 221 characters has been created, you will need to make a change in the following location.

1. Go to MY COMPUTER and open the C: drive.

2. Open DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS.

3. Open the folder with your username.

4. Open FAVORITES.

5. Right-click the favorite item with more than 221 characters and shorten it to under 221 characters.

Launch Internet Explorer 7 in a mode where the add-on’s are disabled.

1. Click START–>RUN

2. Type iexplore -extoff

You can also create a shortcut so that you can always run Internet Explorer this way.

1. Right-click on the Desktop

2. New–>Shortcut

3. Enter in iexplore -extoff

Enable or disable the tabs in Internet Explorer 7.

1. In IE7 click Tools, and select Internet Options.

2. Select the General tab.

3. In the Tabs section, click Settings.

4. Uncheck Enable Tabbed Browsing to disable the tabs. Check it to enable tabs.

With certain monitors, you may have a problem with blurry text in Internet Explorer 7 (IE7).

In IE7, perform the following steps:

1. Click Tools–>Internet Options.

2. Click Advanced

3. in the Multimedia section, uncheck the following option:

Always use Clear Type for HTML

4. Click OK.

Now the text should appear less blurry.

When trying to view a web page, you get an error:

“You do not have the most current version of Internet Explorer.”
or
“The Web site supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or later versions.”

In Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)

To resolve this issue, you can emulate Internet Explorer 6 by using the User Agent String Utility tool to change how Web sites recognize Internet Explorer 7.
