In our case, we got this error message because a theme pack was installed on the computer such as BricoPacks, Crystal Clear or any of the other items available at CrystalXP. It modified the shell32.dll and made it more than 8KB in size. When certain setup.exe applications detect this, it fails with this error.

When we uninstalled CrystalXP, the problem was resovled.

You get an error when starting a Windows Service:

Error 193: %1 is not a valid Win32 application

This could be caused by a folder on your hard drive that has a similar name to the folder that contains the path to the service. For example, if the path of the executable file for a service is C:\Program Files\ProgramName\ServiceName.exe, and if a folder that is named C:\Program also exists on your hard disk, Windows locates the C:\Program folder on your hard disk before the C:\Program Files\ProgramName\ServiceName.exe file, and then tries to run it.

You can get rid of the Program folder, or perform the following steps:

1. Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT and click OK.

2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then SYSTEM
then CurrentControlSet
then Services
then ServiceName

3. Right-click ImagePath on the right side. In the Value data box, place quotes in the path.

Example:

Change: C:\Program Files\ProgramName\ServiceName.exe

To: “C:\Program Files\ProgramName\ServiceName.exe”

4. Click OK and close REGEDIT. Restart the computer.

Users are reporting problems when installing the Windows Update KB935807 in Windows Vista. They get Error 80070002.

This update was supposed to address a vulnerability in the Windows Firewall. Users posted their issues to the Microsoft Forum about this problem, but it seems the thread has been removed for some reason.

I located this suggestion that says to clean out Temporary Internet Files and Download the update manually.

Another solution says that you simply have to create a firewall folder in the location C:\windows\system32\logfiles and this will solve the problem.

When you try to access a Help file you get an error:

Error: Memory Full. Please free memory by closing applications or removing unnecessary files.

To solve this error, you will need to delete the .GID file associated with the help file. Every time you access a help file from an application, it accesses a file with an extension of .HLP. When the help database is built during search, it creates another file with the .GID extension.

For example, WinZip has a file located in C:\Program Files\Winzip called WINZIP.HLP. There is also a file created called WINZIP.GID. We would delete WINZIP.GID.

Additionally, it doesn’t hurt if you search the entire hard drive for *.GID and delete them all. These files get recreated automatically, so you’re not deleting any data.

To do this, you can go to Start > Search > For Files or Folders and click All Files and Folders. Then in the field where it says All or part of the file name: you can type *.GLD and click Search.

You get an error message in Internet Explorer:

Sorry! Content Advisor will not allow you to see this site

An administrator may have locked you out of certain web sites using Content Advisor. Content Advisor can block specific web sites or automatically block sites that contain certain words or phrases set by the person (usually and administrator) that enabled it.

You will need to disable Content Advisor if you wish for this behavior to not occur.

To perform the following steps, you must obtain the supervisor password that Content Advisor was enabled with from the administrator.

1. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options.

2. Under the Content tab, click Disable.

3. Enter the supervisor password, and then click OK three times.

You cannot start IE7 because it’s stuck on:
