How to pair or sync your apple remote to the Apple TV unit.

There are 2 ways you can do this:

1. From the main menu, select Settings.

2. Choose Pair Remote Control.

You can also press and hold the Menu and »| buttons for 6 seconds to pair.

Once successfully paired your Apple Remote, Apple TV displays a chain-link symbol above a picture of a remote. The Apple TV now works only with the paired remote.

How to reset or zap the PRAM in Mac OS X: Leopard.

1. Restart your computer while holding down the keys Command+Option+P+R.

2. Wait for your computer to chime twice before releasing the keys.

The screen will flash when the PRAM resets.

Other iPod’s have Disk Mode where you can use the iPod as a hard drive. However, the iPod Touch doesn’t have this mode. There is currently no way to get it to show up in the Finder on a Mac or on the Windows Desktop. You are only able to use the iPod Touch within the iTunes application.

Personally, I think that it’s kind of strange to me that a feature like this would not be available on an iPod in this price range, when you have this feature on the $50 iPod Shuffle.

UPDATE: We have found third party solutions available to use your iPod Touch as a hard drive.

For Mac, you can use PhoneView.
For PC or Mac, you can use TouchCopy.

If you like playing around with deep settings on your electronic devices, you might want to have a look at the Diagnostics Mode screen on the iPod Nano. Here is how to do it.

1. Reset the unit by pressing and holding Menu and the Center Button simultaneously.

2. After about 5 seconds, the screen will melt away and the Apple logo will appear. Now press and hold Rewind and the Center Button simultaneously.

3. Now you can navigate the screen using the Forward and Rewind buttons. To exit Diagnostics Mode, you will have to reset the unit again.

When trying to restore the iPhone in iTunes for Windows, you get an error:

Unable to restore phone. Unknown error (6)

To resolve this problem, try the following steps:

1. Open the following location:

Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Windows Vista:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

2. Delete files that end with a .ipsw.

Now hopefully you can restore your iPhone without getting the Error 6 message.

When you try to start iTunes, you get an error message that says:

The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.

This happens because, somehow the iTunes Library.itl file got set as read only. You can fix this by doing the following steps:

1. Open the My Documents folder.

2. Open the My Music folder.

3. Open the iTunes folder

4. Right-click the iTunes Library.itl file and select Properties.

5. Uncheck Read-only.

6. Click OK.

Now you should be able to start iTunes without the error.

Create a playlist directly on your iPhone using the On-The-Go Playlist.

1. From the Home screen, tap Playlists.

2. Tap On-The-Go.

3. Browse the song list with the buttons at the bottom of the screen. Tap any song or video to add it to the playlist.

4. Tap Done when you are finished.

When you sync an iPod in Windows XP, you may get the following error:

The iPod “name iPod” cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)

To solve this problem, try the following:

1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 softpub.dll

2. When you receive the message that the DLL has been registered, click OK and perform the same steps for each of the following commands one by one under Start > Run:

Want to protect a Word 2008 document from certain eyes? You can set a password on it.

1. Click File > Save As.

2. Click Options.

3. Click the Show All button

4. Click the Security button.

5. Type a password in the Password to Open.

6. Click OK.

7. Type the password again.

8. Click OK.

If you want to prevent changes to a Word 2008 document, you can password protect it from being changed.

1. Click File > Save As.

2. Click Options.

3. Click the Show All button

4. Click the Security button.

5. Type a password in the Password to Modify box.

6. Click OK.

7. Type the password again.

8. Click OK.

If you are reviewing a document for a colleague, it will be easier to track changes if you enable Track Changes in your Word 2008 document.

1. Open the document.

2. Click View.

3. Click Toolbars.

4. Click Reviewing.

Add additional clocks with different time zones to your iPod Nano (3rd generation).

1. Choose Extras > Clocks.

2. On the Clocks screen, click the Center button and choose Add.

3. Choose a region and then choose a city.

When you’re out and about listening to your iPod Nano (3rd generation) you may want to add songs to your On-The-Go Playlist. Here’s how.

1. From the Main Menu select Music.

2. Select music my Artists, Albums, etc.

3. Navigate to the song you wish to add.

4. With the song highlighted, press and hold the Center button on your iPod until the selection flashes. The song is then added to your On-The-Go playlist.

How to enable or disable the built in Mac OS X: Leopard firewall.

1. Open System Preferences.

2. Open Security under the Personal section.

3. Click the Firewall button.

4. Do one of the following:

• Select Block all incoming connections to enable the firewall to block all incoming connections. Certain programs may not function with this setting though.
• Select Limit incoming connections to specific services and applications, then click the arrow next to Services to expand the list of services and then use the menu to the right of each service to allow ir disallow connections. You can do the same with Applications.
• Select Allow all incoming connections to disable the firewall.

5. Close System Preferences when you’re finished.

Where to find the serial number to your iPod Nano (3rd generation).

1. Choose Settings from the Main Menu.

2. Select About.

3. Details about your iPod appear, press the center button 2 times. Your Serial Number will be displayed.

If you need your iPod Nano to be secure, you may want to be able to lock the screen with a password.

1. Select Extras

2, Select Screen Lock.

3. Enter a combination. Use the wheel to select a number. Press the Center button to confirm your choice.

So you can’t get into your iPod Nano because you forgot the password you set to lock the screen? Well, unfortunately you will need to Restore the software. Doing so will clear all content off of it. Here’s how.

1. Attach your iPod Nano to the computer.

2. Open iTunes, select the iPod Nano on the left side.

3. Click the Summary tab.

4. Click Restore and follow the instructions to complete the restore process.

How to add a BlueTooth device in Mac OS X: Leopard.

1. Open System Preferences > Bluetooth.

2. Ensure Bluetooth Power and Discoverable is turned on.

3. Click the + button.

4. Click the kind of device you have, and click Continue.

5. Click the name of the device you are adding, and click Continue.

6. You may get a prompt to enter a password. Enter the password for the device you are adding. The password should be either on the BlueTooth device or in the manual. Follow prompts on the device if necessary.

How to change the workgroup name in Mac OS X: Leopard.

1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.

2. Open the Network icon in the Internet & Network area.

3. Select the network connection you use to connect to the Windows network.

4. Click Advanced.

5. Click WINS.

6. Type the name of the Windows workgroup in the Workgroup field.

7. Click OK and then click Apply.

Getting rid of a web clip from the Home screen on your iPod Touch can be tricky to figure out. Here’s how.

1. Touch and hold any Home screen icon until the icons begin to wiggle.

2. Tap the X in the corner of the Web Clip you wish to delete.

3. Select Delete, then press the Home button to save your changes.
