2. Open System Preferences.

3. Click Startup Sound.

4. Click the Mute checkbox to turn off the startup sound completely. You can also just lower the volume if you wish.

I recently was using iPhoto on my Mac Powerbook, and received an error:

An error occurred while trying to save your photo library.

It also said:

Some recent changes may be lost. Make sure your hard disk has enough space and that iPhoto is able to access the iPhoto Library.

I was lost about what to do. Luckily I found this post about the issue.

As instructed, I…

1. Downloaded BatchChmod.

2. Using this software, I applied the settings below to my iPhoto Library Folder.

These steps worked great. I no longer have the annoying error message.

There are some people that have been getting impatient when updating their iPhone to the version 2.0 software. They see a screen that says Restoring iPhone Software, but it stays there for hours and seems stalled or frozen. So what do you do?

Let your iPhone sit! I don’t care if it’s been 5 hours. Leave it alone and do not unplug it. Leave it updating all night if you have to. The update can take 30 minutes to about 6 hours. If it’s taking longer, leave it anyway and see if it finishes.

If you’ve waited overnight and your iPhone screen has still not changed, then it’s probably time to say you have an iBrick. You will need to have it repaired by Apple at that point.

Want to take a screen shot of your Apple iPhone screen? With the 2.0 version of applications you now can. This works with both the classic and 3G versions.

Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time. The screen should flash briefly. Now check out your photo album. It should contain a photo in it with a picture of your screen.

How to Fix a Wet iPod

So you decided to jump into the pool with your iPod on? Maybe your were listening to it while doing your business, then got up and it slid right into the toilet? Well, there is still hope for your iPod. Give your iPod the best chance with these tips:

Do not attempt to turn your iPod back on right away

It’s not so much the water that damages electronics, but the short that can happen if you power them on when they are still wet. Keep it off until you know it’s totally dry.

Remove all peripherals from the device

Take the case off, headphones and any other items that might be attached to your iPod.

Use a vacuum

Take then handheld part of a vacuum cleaner and run it around the device. Try to get as much of the water out of it as possible. DO NOT use an item like a blow dryer. That will only force air into other areas of your iPod and may cause more damage.

Leave the device in a well ventilated area

Place the device face up in an area where the water will evaporate out of it. What I like to do is put it in front of a low running fan. Leave it there for at least 3 days, longer if it’s really saturated.

The setting to toggle Shuffle mode on or off on the iPod Touch can be pretty difficult to find. Here’s how to enable or disable song shuffling.

iPod Nano Skips Songs

My iPod Nano recently started skipping some songs here and there. I thought that maybe there was a problem with the music file, but it would play fine on the PC. I had purchased the song in iTunes, so it wasn’t a problem with a rouge file or anything like that. I tried these steps recommended by Apple here.

First I reauthorized my iTunes.

  1. In iTunes, choose Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu (your computer needs to be connected to the Internet).
  2. In the resulting dialog, enter your Apple ID and password.
  3. Click OK.

That didn’t work, so I had to restore my iPod to the factory settings. Finally that did it. It was kind of annoying to have to reload all of my music over again.

2. Click the Summary tab.

3. Uncheck the box Open iTunes when this iPod is connected.

Now you can sync the device only when you want to by clicking the Sync button in the lower right corner of the window.
