Sony Ericsson Xperia X10: Hard Reset

If you wish to return your Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone to factory default settings, a hard reset is the answer. If you hard reset Xperia X10, it will wipe all data and settings from the device. You may wish to perform these steps if you’ve been experiencing lock ups or other types of malfunctions, or if you will no longer be using the device.

There are quite a few options when it comes to a hard reset. Here are 3:

Note: If you think you may need any information stored on the phone in the future, be sure to backup the data.

Option 1 – Hard reset Xperia X10 using hardware buttons

1. Unlock the screen then press and hold the Power button for two seconds. Select the Power off option. If the phone won’t turn off, pull and replace the battery.

2. Hold the Left and Right buttons located under the display.

3. Press and release the Power button while continuing to hold the Left and Right buttons until instructions appear.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Option 2 – Hard reset Xperia X10 using software

1. From the Home screen press Menu and select Settings, or tap the application slider and select Settings.

2. Select Privacy.

3. Tap Factory data reset.

4. Select Reset phone.

5. Select Yes to confirm the hard reset.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will then go through the process of formatting the memory. Wait for it to restart and factory default settings will be restored.

Option 3 – Hard reset Xperia X10 by restoring software (Windows required)

1. Download and install PC Suite.

2. From the PC Suite software, select Tools.

3. Select Phone Repair.

4. Select Continue.

5. Wait for the download to complete.

6. Press and hold the Back button while plugging the phone into the computer via the USB cable.

7. The phone will be flashed with the software and complete the hard reset.

Wiping all data from SD card

A hard reset won’t erase any data on the SD card. If you won’t be needing the data saved on the card anymore, you may want to format it. Be sure to backup any photos, music or other data files you may wish to keep.

1. From the Home screen press Menu and select Settings, or tap the application slider and select Settings.

2. Select SD card & phone storage.

3. Select Unmount SD card.

4. The Format SD card lights up. Tap it.

5. Select Erase Everything.
