Roku 2: Remote Control Doesn’t Work

After using my Roku 2 video player for about 2 weeks, the remote suddenly stopped working. I’m not sure what caused this issue, but the remote certainly needed to re-sync with the box. After verifying that the batteries weren’t the issue, I did the following steps to get it working again.

1. Open the battery cover on the back of the remote.

2. Press the small sync button below the battery compartment.

3. Using a paper clip, press the reset button on the back of the Roku box. Optionally, you may unplug the power cord from the unit then plug it in again.

4. Ensure the remote control is in range of the box. Once the device starts, the remote should resync and work again.

If these steps didn’t work, you may want to try to factory reset the Roku 2.

I thought my remote was broken when it fell onto the carpet and would no longer work. I tried to pair up again but no joy. I googled the problem and found your site. The soft reset on the Roku 2 box allowed the remote to pair up again and all is good. Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.

Did not work for me :-( I did a soft reset and a hard reset, and tried them a few times. I even held a digital camera in front of the remote to test infrared output- it was there. No idea why the remote is not controlling my TV Roku screen. I sent an email to Roku support.

Thanks. Worked for me too. I was upgrading from the original roku to xs. Maybe it sync’d with my old remote because that one worked. Hope this helps people!
