A friend of mine had a problem with Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Windows closing automatically after launching the application. The splash screen would appear, but then it would close after saying ‘Loading brushes’. I reinstalled the program and we still couldn’t get the program to launch.
This problem is usually caused by corrupted preferences. To solve this problem, we did the following:
1. Go to Start > Run or hold down the Windows key and press R.
2. Type %appdata% and click OK.
3. Navigate to Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS4 > Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings.
4. Right-click on Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp and select Rename.
5. Give the file a name of Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.old.
Now try to start Photoshop. Hopefully it works like it did for me.
