Update to my post on April 25, 2010
When I came back to the Denver area, conference calling worked for 2 – 3 weeks. It then regressed back to its original state of not working. I plan to visit Verizon if I’m still having this problem after the next major update due this week.

  2. Kelley says:

I was able to get three on at once. When I attempted to add a fourth, one would always drop.

  3. Walt says:

I have the Droid X and the conference call feature should be called the “3 way calling feature”, it is NOT a true conference calling feature. There should be no limit on the number of individuals in a CONFERENCE call. A 3 way is all it is. I plan to discuss this with the company.

    • Mitch says:

Your provider may not offer the feature, but I do know if you call most wireless companies, they can set it up to support more callers.

  4. TT says:

I could only get two calls at once….Is it possible to add more?

I was never able to make a conference call in the Denver area either. I’ve moved to Minneapolis, and I can now make conference calls on my Android.
This could be because a) I’m in Minneapolis rather than Denver, or b) I was told after calling a Verizon rep to update the phone using *228, pressing 1, and then following instructions. The automated message says that you are activating a phone, but that need not be taken literally.
I’d be most interested if anyone has feedback about which option above is most likely responsible for my now being able to do 3-way calling.
Regarding the last question I read a post that said that virtually any number of people can be added to a conference call. I haven’t tested this, however.

  6. VIC says:

How many can be added to conference call?

  7. Mark says:

Now who would have thought that simple thing would be a problem. I’ll go to the store, try it, and let you know.

Greg, Did you get an earlier generation phone back in 2009 by chance ? Don’t know if they tweeked anything on the phones in stock now.

  8. Greg Amerine says:

I have tried to make many conference calls and have yet to complete one. I live in Denver and went to my local vz store and they two employee there couldn’t get it to work either. I really hope that motorola fixes this problem soon. The whole reason why I renewed my contract with VZ is because of the droid, now I am wondering if I made the right decision.

  9. jk says:

Yes, you can simply select the contact from the list for a conference call.

  10. Mark says:

With the Blackberry you hit “conference call” from the dropdown menu and can SELECT A CONTACT FROM YOUR CONTACTS, rather than MANUALLY typing in the number. This makes things very quick and easy. I want the Droid but would like to confirm if the Droid software will also do this. I don’t see an option for that above. Can you select a contact for a conference call ?

  11. Emerson says:

Well, I own one and I just completed a 45 minute conference call with one person in Washington (State) and the other in Georgia. I am in Arizona.

No problem. I have found absolutely nothing wrong with the Droid…

  12. Bruce says:

Have tried it on four different phones at the Verizon store and it did not work.
