Motorola Droid: Increase MMS File Size Limits
Posted by Mitch on Jan 29, 2010 under Android Tips | 3 CommentsIf you’ve ever tried to send a file larger than 300kb using the Messenger app on the Motorola Droid, you will get an error message.
Message size limit reached. Sorry you cannot add this video to your message.

You could use email instead, but if you really want to use an MMS text message, you can use a third party messaging solution like ChompSMS. ChompSMS can be downloaded from the Market.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the app, open it and select Menu > Settings. You will see an option for MMS Size Limit.

Here you can increase the file size limit to 1MB or set it to have no limit at all.
I was able to get this to work. Thank you for bringing this to attention! I wanted to send a 720p video I transported from my camera through MMS (i don’t know the person’s email nor does the person have one i believe). As you probably figured, it is a very big video file. Even after converting it to a video file native to her phone and lowering the frame size and framerate, I couldn’t get it to the 300kb limit.
After finding this post and using said program, (this option is now under Setting, MMS, and MMS size limit), I was able to send it to my girlfriend’s Droid (wanted to test it first…)! I still had to convert and minimize the kb size of the video, but it at least worked! Thank you again.
The network may be holding the file back then. Some networks don’t allow larger files.
this didnt work i waited three hours and it was still working on sending the message. and it says the file is too big for email also!
