LG Revolution: Disable 4G

Like all wireless phones, the Verizon LG Revolution is always searching for the best possible data signal it can obtain. It tries to get a 4G signal, then 3G and so on. All of this searching can drain the battery quick if you’re in an area that doesn’t have a solid signal. If you find yourself in an area that doesn’t have 4G/LTE coverage, disable the 4G connection with these steps.

1. Open the Phone app.

2. From the Phone tab, dial *#*#4636#*#*

3. Tap the Phone information menu.

4. Scroll down to the Set preferred network type setting and set it to CDMA auto (PRL).

5. Press the Home button.

If you’re out in a really rural area where the cows roam and there is spotty 3G coverage, you may want to disable that as well. This can be achieved by performing steps 1 to 3 again and setting the preferred network type to CDMA only.

If you ever wish to set everything back the way it was on the LG Revolution, you can set the preferred network type setting back to CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto any time.
