Install APK Files on Your Motorola Droid
Posted by Mitch on Nov 09, 2009 under Android Tips | 8 CommentsQ: How do you install APK files from other places outside of the traditional Android Market to the Motorola Droid?
A: Before performing these steps, be sure to enable your Droid to allow installation from third party sources.
1. Go to the Android Market on the phone and search for and download an app called ApkInstaller.
2. Attach your Droid to your computer. Swipe down the notification bar at the top screen and Mount the device. The device should show up as a drive.
3. Take the APK file you downloaded and copy it to anywhere on the SD Card drive.
4. Open the ApkInstaller app.
5. It will show the files on your SD Card. Tap the APK file to run the installer.
6. Tap Install.
This did exactly what I needed. Thanks Much!
Works Great !!!
Thanks!!!
I have tried to install these apk files from my sd card and the apkinstaller says there is a parse error. The exact message is There is a problem parsing the package. thanks
Thanks for the tip. Did it, works great!
Just got the Droid, downloaded a couple themes (as well as the app necessary to run certain themes). Ex: dxtop and dxtop theme. I clicked ‘open’ on the theme, but cannot find it anywhere. It says that installed just fine, but I can’t get it to show up as my ‘theme.’ Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I think there is a step missing. After “3. Take the APK file you downloaded and copy it to anywhere on the SD Card drive.”, you need to unmount the SD card by reversing #2; that is “Swipe down the notification bar at the top screen and unmount the device by using “Turn off USB storage.” APKInstaller will not work on a mounted SD ard.
I think this is it – good luck
Didn’t work for us. Get an error when trying to launch the ApkInstaller app.
Worked like a charm – many thanks
