IE: “The page cannot be displayed. Additionally, you may have no IP address or no Automatic Private IP Addressing”
Posted on Nov 19, 2007 under Internet Explorer Tips, Windows XP Tips |When you try to use Internet Explorer under Windows XP you get the error:
The page cannot be displayed. Additionally, you may have no IP address or no Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) address, and you may be receiving IP packets but not sending them.
Fixing Winsock 2 may fix this problem.
1. Click on START>RUN
2. Type the following command:
netsh winsock reset catalog
This should reset Winsock 2 registry entries. See if you have the same problem.
If that doesn’t work, try the following:
1. Click Start>Run and type Regedit
2. Delete the following two registry keys:
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then System
then CurrentControlSet
then Services
Delete the Winsock and Winsock2 keys
3. Restart the computer
4. After restart, right-click My Network Places and select Properties
5. Right click your network connection (i.e. Local Area Connection) and select Properties
6. Click on the Install button
7. Select Protocol
8. Click Add
9. Click Have Disk
10. Browse to the C:Windowsinf directory
11. Click Open
12. Click OK
13. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click OK.
14. Restart the computer.
