HTC Hero: Start in Safe Mode

If you’d like to load up your HTC Hero with the factory default settings so that you can troubleshoot problems, you can start it up in Safe Mode.

1. Start with the device off, then turn it on.

2. Wait a couple of seconds after the screen goes on  and start pressing and holding the Menu key.

3. Continue to hold the Menu key until the device starts completely. It should say Safe Mode in the left corner if you were successful.

Hero shows Safe Mode in the bottom left corner

When you’re done, you will want to take the HTC Hero out of Safe Mode.

The hero can be taken out of safe mode the same way you get into it. Power down the unit (I disonnected the battery to do so) and restart it while holding power and menue until it boots up.
I got some warning messages about sim card and service but they went away when the unit fully restarted and its working fine.
