How to Boot Computer Using “Last Known Good Configuration”
Posted on Nov 18, 2007 under Uncategorized |If you installed software or a driver in Windows 2000 or Windows XP, and now your computer fails to load. You may want to try booting your computer using the Last Known Good Configuration.
To do this, follow these steps:
Start your computer and wait until the moment where the BIOS screen disappears and press F8 repeatedly. This can be tricky because you want to press F8 before right as Windows starts loading. If you see the Windows logo appear, you know you’ve missed your chance and you will have to restart and try again.
If you did it correctly, the Windows Advanced Options menu should appear. You can then select the Last Known Good Configuration option.
Then you can continue to boot into Windows.
This will fix problems with the registry, but if the problem is related to a corrupt file, it will not help.
