If you access your Google Gmail over an open wireless network like those at a coffee shop, hotel or even your own workpalce, you leave your account open for hijacking. In these situations, you need to ensure that you are connected to Gmail using a secure or HTTPS connection.

To enable this feature, peform the following steps:

1. Login to your Gmail account.

2. Click Setttings in the upper-right corner.

3. Under the General tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page to the area labeled Browser Connection. You can set this setting to Always use https to enable the secure connection.

4. Be sure to click Save Changes at the bottom when you’re done.
