Gmail: Disable Tabs

Google unveiled a new interface in Gmail that provides a tabbed view along the top of your Inbox view. By default, it shows the “Social” and “Promotions” tabs. I don’t like this view, so I opted to disable them. Here’s how you can too.

From your desktop

1. Login to Gmail.

2. Select the gear menu, then choose Configure inbox.

3. Uncheck Social, Promotions and everything except Primary.

4. Select Save.

From Android app

1. Open the Gmail app.

2. Select the Menu button.

3. Choose Settings.

4. Select your email address.

5. Select Inbox categories.

6. Uncheck everything except Primary.

Now things should look the way you like in Gmail. Disabling tabs returns the look of your Inbox to the way it used to be. Also, if these tabs are disabled in one place, they will be disabled everywhere.
