Using split-screen apps on Android phones can greatly enhance multitasking capabilities and overall productivity. With the split-screen feature, users can have two apps open simultaneously, sharing the screen space and allowing them to interact with both apps without having to switch back and forth.
This is particularly useful when trying to reference information from one app while working or inputting data into another. For example, a user could have their email app open alongside a document editor, allowing them to quickly reference an email’s content while drafting a related document, or they could browse the web for information while simultaneously taking notes in a note-taking app.

Split Screen Apps Galaxy S23 from Recent Apps
Another benefit of split-screen apps on Android phones is the ability to maximize entertainment or communication experiences. Users can watch a video or live stream on one side of the screen while simultaneously engaging in a conversation via a messaging app on the other. This enables them to stay connected with friends and family or participate in group chats while still enjoying their favorite content. Overall, split-screen apps on Android phones offer a more versatile and efficient user experience, catering to the demands of modern, fast-paced lifestyles.
The first way that you can use split-screen apps on the Galaxy S23 is by doing so from the Recent Apps menu. This method has been around for quite some time, and is still preferred by many, even if they own an Android tablet or foldable phone.
- Unlock your Galaxy S23.
- Open your Recent Apps menu. If using gestures, swipe up and hold for a moment. If using on-screen buttons, tap the Recent Apps button.
- Scroll and locate the first app that you want to split-screen.
- Tap the app icon above the preview window.
- From the pop-up box that appears, tap Open in split screen view.
- Select the second app that you want to use in split-screen mode.
Once you’ve entered split-screen mode, you’ll find a bar in the middle of both of the active apps on the screen. You can drag the bar up or down to readjust the size of each app window. And tapping the bar allows you to swap the apps, along with saving the duo as an “App Pair.”

Can’t Use Split Screen Apps on Galaxy S23? How-to Fix
While the release of Android 13 coincided with most app developers starting to support variable sizing for pop-ups and split-screening, not every app will support the feature. Samsung recognized this issue and introduced a “Labs” feature that lets you force any app to be available in Multi Window mode.
- Open the Settings app on your Galaxy S23.
- Scroll down and tap Advanced features.
- Tap Labs at the top of the page.
- Tap the toggle next to Multi window for all apps to the On position.
By enabling this Labs feature, it should make it possible for you to split screen apps on the Galaxy S23 that previously weren’t compatible. However, there’s still a chance that even when enabling this feature, problems may arise and you might not be able to use specific apps in split screen.

I dont understand how to do split screen mode for my note 8, I can find it anywhere in settings. I am annoyed. Please help
Before you could only do two apps open in split screen. now you can open in pop up view and have multiple ones open nad you can re-size them. I actually like this better.
Thank you so much for this. They should have left it how it was. I’ve been searching since the last update and I’m glad I found your post.
Yes! Thank you so much! I was so mad at these damn developers for changing everything and the split window was one of my favs.
I don’t understand why they do this, they move anything that was on top to the bottom, anything on the left to the right, etc. All to mess with us.
