How to load music files onto your T-Mobile G1 Google Android smart phone.
Attach the phone via the USB cable to your computer to copy the music files. The setting on the phone under Home > Settings > Data > SD card & phone storage > Use for USB storage must be checked.
Note: If you have updated your phone, this option may not be available. Instead you will have an option in the notification area when you connect the G1 to the computer.
Copy your music files to the phone, which should be listed as a drive on your computer. The G1 can find the music anywhere on the phone or SD Card, but it’s probably a good idea to organize the files under a folder named Music.
The G1 supports all of the following formats:
- M4A (iTunes application AAC, DRM-free)
- WMA (8)
- OGG Vorbis
Notice the iTunes music must be DRM free. I’m sure this will be a problem for many people if they can’t get their normal iTunes to play on their Google Phone.
Once your songs are all loaded, you can play them by going to Home > Music on the device.
