There is a problem with the Digital Rights Management (DRM) system on your computer.

This typically happens when users are using the Zune Marketplace with their Zune device.

To try to fix this problem, the first thing to try is to run the Security Component Upgrade. You must access this site in Internet Explorer under Administrator privileges. Otherwise the Upgrade option will be grayed out.

If that doesn’t fix the problem try the following to reinstall the DRM system on your system with these steps:

1. In an Explorer (explorer.exe) window, click Tools > Folder Options.

2. Select the View tab.

3. In the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, put a check in the box for Show hidden files and folders.

4. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files, and click OK.

5. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM Windows

6. Right-click on the DRM Windows folder and select Rename. Rename the folder to DRM Windows Backup. Close the window when you are done.

7. Click Start > Run and type regedit.

8. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft

9. Right click on the DRM registry key and select Rename. Rename the key to DRM Backup.

10. Restart the computer normally.

11. Run the Security Component Upgrade again.

Now DRM functionality should work normally.

Vista

1. In an Explorer (explorer.exe) window click Organize > Folder and Search Options.

2. Select the View tab.

3. In the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

4. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files, and click OK.

5. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
If you cannot find this folder, it might be in one of these locations:
C:\Windows\DRM
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

6. Right-click on the DRM folder and select Rename. Rename the folder to DRM Backup and press the Enter key on your keyboard. Close the window when you are done.

7. Click the Start orb and type regedit. Launch the Registry Editor.

8. Navigate to the following location:
For x86 based Vista: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft
For x64 based Vista: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft

9. Right click on the DRM registry key and select Rename. Rename the key to DRM Backup and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

10. Restart the computer normally.

11. Run the Security Component Upgrade again.
