Enable AIM Chat in Gmail

Did you know that you can add your AOL Instant Messenger buddies in your Gmail Chat? You can, and here’s how.

1. In Gmail, click the Settings option in the upper right corner.

2. Click the Chat tab, and you will see the AIM options toward the bottom.

3. If this is your first time using this feature, click Sign into AIM link. You may also have an option to Change AIM settings.

4. Provide your AIM username and password and click Sign in.

5. Now you will have AIM buddies added to your Chat list. AIM buddies are displayed by the little AOL icon man.

Currently I cannot figure out a way to add AOL Instant Messenger to the separate GoogleTalk application. This should be planned in the future.  If you know of a way, please share your solution in the Comments section below.

Are you sure you are looking in your Gmail on the web. This will not work in GoogleTalk.

I would like to remove the AIM feature from GoogleChat. How can I do that?

Apparently it’s supposed to time out after a while. To remove it, what I did was I went on aim.com and changed my password. That was the only way that I could figure out.
