Today I received a question in our comments section about the Text message memory full error message that seem to be common on the Motorola Droid these days. When you are receiving this message, you won’t be able to receive text messages.
The problem is likely happening because the Droid is out of internal memory space. The Messaging app doesn’t use SD card storage space to store messages. It uses the internal memory where apps and app information is stored.
To free this space up and prevent this message, you can navigate to Settings > Applications > Manage applications and uninstall apps you don’t need, or move the apps to the SD card. Doing this with one or two apps should provide enough internal memory space to receive text messages again.

I’m having the same problem with my phone. I want my apps.. that’s the whole reason I bought my “smart phone” android needs to fix this!! I feel like I was mislead once again!!
Delete your Facebook app. It was the absolute solution to this problem. You don’t really need the
app if you have internet access on your phone. So why use it?
Download “app cache cleaner” to clean cache in all apps to free enormous memory and also download “app2sd” which will enable you to both move apps to sd card and also clear cache. I cleared 14 megs just in goole maps cache.
The android store personnel is of no help! They just want to sell you an upgraded phone.
Thanks so much. It worked immediately!
I am having the same issue! my phone actually deleted text messages upon itself somehow. I don’t even have alot of apps down loaded I do have memory card with space available WHAT else can I do?
A samsing galaxy from straight talk and it keeps saying low phone storage and text memory full I have hardly any apps installed and I got a new sd card with 8 gigabyte and it is frustrating! I have maybe 5 or 6 apps downloaded and the rest were already in the phone and the rest are on my sd card do you know what I could do this is never happened before I’ve had this phone for 3 years
This is so bogus. Checking the storage on the phone (settings->SD card &phone storage) shows 12 MB of available space. Not only that I only have 7 txt messages saved and it still whines about text space being full. This is what folks are complaining about. Something is broken!
we shouldnt have to UNINSTALL apps just coz android has memory problems!
there should be another way.
I want to keep my apps!
