Disable “Updating your computer is almost complete” Message
Posted on Nov 18, 2007 under Windows XP Tips |Does that annoying Do you want to restart your computer now? message popup every 5 minutes? Disable the annoying thing without restarting.
The message appears like this:
Updating your computer is almost complete. You must restart your computer for the updates to take effect.
Do you want to restart your computer now?
If you click Restart later it just pops up again in about 5 minutes. You can disable it though if you don’t wish to reboot.
1. Click Start > Run
2. Type sc stop wuauserv and click OK.
This will stop the service that causes this message. Be aware that when you restart your computer, this command will no longer apply. You don’t want to disable the windows update service forever anyway.
