How to Disable AVG AntiVirus Secure Search

AVG Antivirus has an annoying feature called Secure Search that replaces your default search engine in your web browser. If you’ve enabled this feature, you can remove it using these steps.

Complete Uninstall from All Browsers

  1. Close all open web browsers.
  2. Open “Control Panel“.
  3. Select “Programs“. It may also be listed as “Programs and Features“.
  4. Find and select “AVG Web Tuneup” in the list.
  5. Select the “Uninstall/Change” button.
  6. Deselect the “Revert your browser’s default search provider…” option.
  7. Select “Remove“.

Remove from Chrome

  1. Type “chrome://extensions/” in the Address Bar, then press “Enter“, or select the Menu button in the upper-right corner and choose “More tools” > “Extensions“.
  2. Select the trash icon next to “AVG Web TuneUp“.
  3. Select the “Remove” button.

Remove from IE

  1. Select the gear in the upper-right corner, then choose “Manage add-ons“.
  2. Select AVG Secure Search and then choose “Disable“. Select “Close” when you are done.

Remove from Firefox

  1. Type “about:addons” in the Address Bar, then press “Enter“, or select the Menu button in the upper-right corner and choose “Add-ons“.
  2. Select the “Remove” button next to “AVG Web TuneUp“.
