I received an error message when I tried to launch Internet Explorer today. Here’s what it said:
This toolbar was created using an evaluation version of the DTX SDK.
To remove this message please obtain a DTX SDK license.
I realized this started happening after I installed the Comcast Toolbar. To get past it I would have to disable it using these steps.
1. Click Start > Run or go to a command prompt.
2. Type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.
3. Internet Explorer should open. Click Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons…
4. From the drop-down, select Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer.
5. Disable anything that references Comcast Toolbar. If you don’t have anything referencing Comcast Toolbar, disable anything that has the word Toolbar in it.
Close then restart Internet Explorer and you should be all good!

I add a few select sites to the list of Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer. By default, this causes the following message to appear every time I visit them:
The current web page is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. Do you want to allow this?
Since the site is trusted, why would I want to bother with having to click YES every time I visit it? I disabled this message. Here’s how I did it.
1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options.
2. Click the Security Tab.
3. Click Trusted Sites.
4. Click Custom Level…

5. Scroll down to where it says Websites in less privileged web content zone can navigate into this zone. Check Enable.

Now the annoying message should not appear any longer. Some have suggested resetting all zones to the default level. While this will prevent this message from appearing, I consider it a bit extreme if somebody has gone through the trouble of customizing everything already. That button will only undo everything the user has setup.

In Internet Explorer, the letters appear too big or too small.
IE has a feature that increases or decreases the size of your fonts. You can make adjustments by clicking View > Text Size.
A shortcut would also be to hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard while using the scroll wheel on your mouse. You can also hold down CTRL and press + to increase the size or - to decrease the size of the letters.

If the Favorites menu is missing or grayed out in Internet Explorer, there may be a registry key that is causing it. If you are on a company network, your system administration may have locked this option on your computer. You may have to discuss the issue with your IT department. Otherwise, you can try the following steps:
1. Hold down the Windows key and press R.
2. Type regedit and click OK.
3. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then Software
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Policies
then Internet Explorer
then click Restrictions.
4. Look for an entry on the right side for NoFavorites, Right-click the entry and Delete it.
If you can’t find any of these registry keys or values, try HKEY_CURRENT_USER instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The value is located in the same folder structure.

If you are getting a message popping up on certain web sites when using IE that says The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid, you will want to check the date and time your computer is set to.
Just double-click on the time in the lower right corner on the Taskbar and set the time correctly. Be sure to check the time, month, date and the year. As soon as it is corrected, this will usually fix this issue.
