BlackBerry Torch 9800: Hard Reset

If you’re experiencing problems with your BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone, you may want to try to hard reset the device.

Hard Reset
The BlackBerry Torch manual describes a hard reset as removing the battery for about 10 seconds, then placing the battery back into the device. This does clear up many temporary issues with the device, but there are other resets you can perform.

Soft Reset
Press ALT + RIGHT SHIFT(CAP) + DELETE.

Double-Soft Reset
Press ALT + RIGHT SHIFT(CAP) + DELETE . The screen will go blank for a few seconds. When the screen comes back on, immediately press ALT + RIGHT SHIFT(CAP) + DELETE again.

Data Wipe
If none of these help your issues, you may want to wipe all data from the device and start anew with factory default settings.

It sounds like the hardware that controls the cursor has gone bad. This is rather common. Short of searching for and replacing the parts, there isn’t much you can do.

Hi Mitch, Thanks for the tips on soft and double soft reset.
My blackberry torch was hanging up. The phone would do nothing after i switched it on. It was connecting to the network and was receiving all messages and calls but could not make any calls out or read any messages. I think the screenshot software on the phone was causing it all. Removing battery and other ways of resetting the phone did not work. Finally i tried Soft Reset Press ALT + RIGHT SHIFT(CAP) + DELETE. An hola its all working fine again. Many thanks. Hartaj

I have a 9800 BB Torch.. What is the best way to find your MemoPad app. I have files in it I need to have quick access on Home screen. Please solve this issue? Have already read manual on organizer sync for email, this has nothing to do with calendar and email. I can’t find my saved files I saved in MemoPad app. Using OS 6 2647 update.

The only problem I have with my Torch is when I hit the lock button, it locks but the screen doesn’t ‘black out’ like it should. It does this from time to time. It locks, screen goes black and everything is fine but then sometimes it locks, screen doesn’t black out and runs the battery down. Its very annoying and I’ve only had the phone for 2 weeks. I haven’t found a solution to fix this problem. can anyone help?

Easy way if you need to reset and wipe all data on phone: Just enter the password wrong more than 5 times. It will bring up a message letting you know that it will delete all information after another bad password. Just put in another incorrect password and the device will wipe all data and reset the phone!
