Configuring your router for port forwarding will speed up your BitTorrent or BitComet connection. Here’s how to do this on a Linksys router.

1. Find out what your IP address and Gateway is. Write down this info as you will need it later.

2. Type in your Gateway address in your web browser address field. Mine is http://192.168.1.1.

3. Click the Applications & Gaming tab. The Port Range Forward area should be selected.

4. Type BitComet or BitTorrent for Application.

5. For the Start address type 25000 and for the End type 65535.

6. For Protocol, keep it set to Both.

7. Type in the final part to your IP Address.

8. Check the Enable box.

9. Click Save Settings.

10. Try your BitComet or BitTorrent client.

11. In this example I am using BitComet. I have a green light now and download speeds are super fast. Now I can download LEGAL music all I want. ;)

    Hi

I recently purchased a Linksys wired router to connect my pc and my xbox 360 to my broadband (serial connection) I followed the instructions above to the letter, however when I start BitComet I somehow lose my connection to the web. I try to connect to the router via my browser but the page times out - I also try to refresh my IP but that fails as well. The only way I can regain my connection is by restarting the modem AND the router. Can this be a problem with the router or is a settings problem.
