Now other Gmail users will be able to search for your name on the Calendar screen on the left side using the Other Calendar field. They will then be able to view the items on your calendar.

Today we were trying to get into the Gtalk chat application in Gmail from our work. It seems that the administrators at our company have blocked it on the firewall. Nobody on the entire company network could get into it. All of us received an error:

Your network administrator or ISP has chosen to block chat in Gmail

We tried clearing the cookies from our browser, but of course that didn’t help. So we decided to try the secure Gmail site at https://www.gmail.com. Would you believe it worked? It looks like the administrators didn’t think of blocking the secure address. So we can chat in Gtalk until the administrators get wise again.

Like many people, my Inbox gets saturated with phishing requests daily. Each one claiming to need access to my MySpace, eBay or CitiBank account. They keep on coming and most people just delete them. The thing is that I don’t feel these types of email should be taken lightly. Somebody made an attempt on your account! And it was illegal! So what do you do to try to fight back? Well these are good email addresses to know whenever you get a request. Just forward the email to the proper place if it involves any of the following entities.

Flash Ads Locking Up Firefox

Firefox has been locking up on me lately. I get to a point in my day where I have more than 8 tabs open and it just freezes. I can’t switch to another window or another tab in Firefox.

One of my tabs is usually Yahoo Mail since I like to check my email throughout the day. I noticed Yahoo pages serve a lot of animated Flash ads and they were animating very slowly. I found these ads have been the culprit in slowing Firefox as well as my machine down quite a bit.

So what do I do? Uninstall Flash and suffer when I need it to play games or whatever? Well I found a workaround, albeit it’s not practical. Everytime one of these ads load and start locking up things, I can right-click on the Flash ad and select Quality > Low.

Set Flash quality to Low

Doing this has made makes problem with Firefox go away immediately. However, I have to do this each time the problematic ad loads. Annoying, but a workaround for now.

Ways to Get to Facebook

1. Use a proxy server. Here are a few that I know about:

The tools available in Gmail by far trump the tools in any other web based email system. My problem is that I have been using Yahoo Mail for years. Friends and family will forever send to my Yahoo account as they have for the past 10 years. I recently decided though that Yahoo no longer has a place in my heart. I would officially migrate to Gmail. I was relieved to find that I could manage my Yahoo Mail through Gmail. Here’s how it’s done.

1. Login to Gmail and click on the Settings link in the upper right corner.

2. Click on the Accounts tab under the Settings area.

3. Here you can click to Add another mail account.
